SARASOTA, FL. (NS) -

What a day for the President of the United States to come to Sarasota, FL. The skies were clear with some wind and temperatures were a very comfortable 71 degrees at 12 noon...

The President flew in to SRQ International Airport aboard Air Force One, his big blue and white jumbo 747 Jet around 12:40 pm ET...

When Vern Buchanan stepped up on the podium at the Sarasota-Bradenton Convention Center he was joined by President George W. Bush. The cheers were tremendous and the noise was loud...

The President started by saying "it is everyone's obligation to vote." He also thanked Vern's lovely wife Sandy and her two sons Matt and James for their tremendous sacrifices made during Verns's Congressional campaign...

The President also joked about his "relatives in Florida." He got his biggest laugh when he mentioned that both he and his brother "shared the same Campaign Consultant, their Mother."

The President talked about the tax cuts all taxpayers got and mentioned wanting to lower taxes and make his tax cuts of last year "permanent."

President Bush then talked about the growing economy and the economic boom being experienced by the United States. He said we were "the envy of the World."

The President mentioned Vern Buchanan's previous experience as a "business entrepeneur who had created thousands of jobs." He also said Vern had been a part of "the American dream"...

The President then pointed out that his Administration added 6.6 million new jobs with wages that had gone up 2.2%. He then said "we've cut the deficit in half, 3 years ahead of schedule." This is absolutely true and the Democrats don't want to remind the voters of it either...

This Rally was designed to spark the GOP faithful and help get the Voters out to vote on November 7th. He also said he wanted to make his tax cuts "permanent" and electing Vern Buchanan would help him towards achieving that goal...

In comments about the War on Terror the President said, "we have to be right 100% of the time, they have to be right only once." He also reminded everyone present that we were in a "War" and the terrorist's we were fighting were "sworn to doing as much damage and hurting as many of us as they could."

The President then got one of his loudest ovations when he said, "I made the right decision taking Sadaam Hussein out." He also said "the Iraqi people deserve to be free." He concluded his comments by saying "our troops will come home with victory and not defeat."

He said "the power of liberty is bring peace to the World," in referring to the democratization of Iraq..

The President concluded his remarks about 2:08 pm ET and then shook as many hands as he could in walking around and then out of the Convention Center...

This was truly a great day for the residents of Sarasota and Manatee Counties in having the President of the United States come and visit us...

I spoke with Manatee County Sheriff Charlie Wells, in charge on Security for the event, FL. State Rep. Donna Clarke, Bradenton Mayor Wayne Poston, Sandy Tibbetts the Communications Director for Vern Buchanan, former Bradenton Mayor Bill Evers and numerous local City and
County elected officials as they walked by...

What Part Of The Word STUPID Don't You Understand???

What Part Of The Word STUPID Don't You Understand???

Written by Matt Bruce - The Captain's America - wwpr1490.com
used with permission

SARASOTA, FL. (NS) -
Picture the following scenario I'm going to tell you about, because it actually happened...

First you have a person riding a bicycle holding a cellphone,  dressed like some sort of homeless person, doing a radio show from his bicycle at an event for the President of The United States...

This person is riding in an area where the sign clearly states and is lit up saying "NO Stopping, Standing Or Parking"...

Intially when this person on the bicycle arrived, he was told by law Enforcement that he was to stay inside a certain area. This was verified by the comment made on the radio show by the individual on the bicycle and is also recorded on the radio show tape...

Then a little while later, he found himself down in front of the place where the residential event was taking place talking on his cell phone doing a radio show...

At this point, his radio show and all comments being made are now being heard by Secret Service Agents at the main gate as this person rides up...

The person on the bike is talking to an Anti-War protestor who is ranting about Nazi-ism and Gestapo tactics plus a few other choice words that I can't print in this article while the Secret Service listens to all of this on my pickup truck radio...

Now ask yourself, what would YOU do if you're the Secret Service?

Obviously I'm sure you can imagine what happened next, especially since the Secret Service was still listening to the radio show, the bicycle rider and his Anti-War protestor friend as my vehicle was being searched to gain entry into the VIP parking lot at the Presidential event...

Next thing I knew an Agent was transmitting on his radio to his fellow Agents at the main entrance. Whatever was then said, I have NO idea of..

OK, so now go inside not knowing what was taking place outside and start preparing myself for my special radio show broadcast from 12 noon to 1pm live at the Presidential event for which I had credentials and was The White House Media Press List to do...

After a few minutes a Secret Service Agent came up to me and asked me if the person on the bicycle out by the main entrance "was any part of my radio show." I answered NO, which was absolutely TRUE, he was NOT.  Nothing else was asked of me. I was also told at that time that he had shown the Secret Service some kind of 'expired' Press Card. Now ask yourself, how STUPID is that???

That was all I was asked at that time and nothing else was said until I ran across Manatee County Sheriff Charlie Wells. At that time I learned about the bicylist being "detained" which was going on outside the event involving the other radio show person who was NOT authorized to be in or at the Presidential event nor was in ANY way
a part of my radio show...

I waited until the Radio Station Owner showed up as my photographer and then I asked the Secret Service to come over and tell her what was going on, I had NO idea what the circumstances were at this time with this individual.  At that point the Secret Service used such choice words as is this guy on the bicycle was "Nuts," "Crazy," "Stupid" and "Moronic". As a matter of fact, they even wondered "how he ever could have gotten on the radio."

So after clarification from the Radio Station Owner, I believe this person was told to leave the area immediately. But instead of doing that, he chose to make 3 stops before clearing the Presidential event which I believe caused him further embarassment and once again being stopped, this time by a female Manatee County Sheriff...

Now, I ask ALL of you...what part of STUPID doesn't everybody understand???

This was an obvious attempt by sometime whose Totem Pole doesn't go all the way to the top, that was merely trying to do something for publicity  purposes...

What may have started out as an innocent attempt to do his radio show from close to' a Presidential event took a much different turn when his own words on the radio and those of an Anti-War protestor got HIM into trouble with the U.S. Secret Service...

Once again, this only goes to prove that you'd better be 'careful' what you say on the radio because you never know who's listening...

The only other problem with all of this is everybody knows he is associated with the Manatee County Democratic Party and what he did was a very STUPID thing for himself and for THEM...

You don't show up at a Presidential event without the proper credentials and start talking on a cell phone over the radio airwaves being listened to by the U.S. Secret Service and then start talking to someone about "where they can set up to protest" a Presidential event...

That WILL get you into BIG trouble every day of the week as this person has now found out...

Has he learned anything from this incident? Not hardly, since he promptly announced to me, "I'll be at the Laura Bush event."

So once again, what part of STUPID don't you understand???

What was this persons name you ask? "Mitch Mallett," host of a local Bradenton Democratic Themed Radio Show called "It's Your Gavel" which is nothing more than the mouth piece for the Democratic Party...

It's no wonder why the Democrats are STILL the 'minority' with people like this as their spokesman...

Remember this when you head for the Polls to Vote on Tuesday November the 7th...

For Now That's Just 'OUR' Opinion...

Cngratulations, Your Loved One Is Coming Home

Congratulations, your loved one is coming home.

By Betsy Reed – guest commentator

October 24, 2006

I want to start out by thanking you for your sacrifice, as you have made many sacrifices for this our wonderful country. It is hard enough to have to move your whole household every three years, but the ultimate is having your loved one gone for almost a year, let alone go to a war zone. Your loved one is definitely a hero, but you are every bit a hero too.

You have held down the home front and had to be the one to make sure everything runs smoothly while your husband or wife is gone. You have had to fill in for your spouse/loved ones this past year with the kids, with the vehicles, with the house, and with the yard. Believe me, I know how hard that can be. My husband was gone for two and a half long, lonely, hard years. I learned how important it was to get my sources lined up to help me with all of the difficult tasks that I felt so incapable of doing. These sources also had to be reasonably priced if not down right cheap as keeping things going can really get expensive.

You also have had to be both mama and daddy to the kids. That is almost impossibility. The kids are not something that you can put on hold like you could a stuck window, wait till daddy or mama comes home. Nope, these ever changing little humans that we have created from our own bodies have minds of their own, and needs. Oh those needs! Meanwhile we have needs too. The need for a little cooperation from those growing kids we have living in our homes, as well as some cooperation from the car, the appliances the lawn mower, and for that matter any and all of the other stuff that daddy used to do.

Eventually however, we do manage to get into a fairly decent routine, and learn how to do the things that we never really wanted to learn how to do. Hey, even the kids are doing pretty well. No, things are not perfect, and we miss our loved ones, but we are evolving into a can do person here. In fact we are even proud of some of our accomplishments and some of our newfound abilities.

Now, it is getting time for our loved one to come home. The first thing we think of is, will he be happy with what I have done? Does the house look ok? Do I look ok? Shoot, I need to lose 5 more pounds. I haven’t seen him in so long will he think I have changed? How should I act?

All of these questions are normal. Also, in the back of your mind you think that it will be so good for him to get back home so he can handle the car problems, or the air conditioner problems or the “you fill in the blank” problems. Just give him a few weeks and then we can get back to normal.

NO, NO, NO!!!!! This is where you will run into problems.

First, your husband or wife is not coming back to the same people that he/she left. You have changed. You have had to grow greatly while they were away, and you are not the same dependent person that you were before deployment. You have grown up, a lot. If your spouse thinks they are coming home and things will be just the way it was before let the buzzer go off in your head now – buzzzzzzzz - (which means wrong) because you are not that person anymore. When daddy or mama left, the kids were in certain stages (you know they are always in some stage or another, and they seem to jump from one stage to another without always completing the stage they were just in). They have also grown in size, in wisdom (hopefully), but definitely in knowledge, whether good knowledge or bad knowledge, it is still knowledge, and even changed in their likes and dislikes. Ha even by now the fads and some of the fashions have even changed.

No, he/she is definitely not coming home to the same people. What he/she wants to come home to is what he/she left behind, and those people just do not exist any more.

Of course who you expect to come home to you is the same person that left. Guess what? That person does not exist any more either. He/she is still in there somewhere, but after the things they have experienced over in Iraq, that person is buried deep inside a protective shell that is very thick.

He/she may look the same, may smile the same and even at the very first for one or two days or maybe even a few weeks, may actually act the same, but remember it is an act that they really do want to be true. In reality, your spouse is coming back home to heal. He/she is wounded mentally and emotionally. You can check out their bodies and it will look the same, no wounds or bullet holes, but they are wounded just the same, inside the mind, inside the heart.

You may be just talking innocently about something and all of a sudden for no reason that you can think of he/she explodes, or just out of the blue he/she is in a rage and you do not know why. Neither actually do they. It does not really matter why at that point. It can either make you mad or flatly hurt your feelings. NOW IS THE TIME to shut up, listen, and do not take this personally. He/she may even just wake up in a rage thinking they are back in Iraq. Never, never approach him while he is sleeping by touching or grabbing him. You might really get hurt physically yourself. Yep very bad idea! Thankfully I did follow that advice myself, as my husband experienced those flashbacks. He even sometimes felt guilty about being home rather than being back there in Iraq, still helping out.

Your feelings will be stomped on, smashed and hurt, probably for the first year that they are back, and probably a lot. (So will his/hers) It is all right for you to have hurt feelings. It is all right for you to get mad. But I want you to remember one thing. CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES WISELY. Also, timing is everything. During the time your loved one (and you must remember he/she is still your loved one even during these times), is having this fit, that this is not the time to confront, or yell back or try to get your point across. Most of the time when they go into these rages of madness, it is not even about you. It is about what they have experienced. They have seen some horrific things, dead bodies, wounded friends, and have experienced hearing mortars fired into their surroundings
daily. They have seen the results of those things we only hear about occasionally, IED’s going off and tearing up machinery, tearing up people, and getting fired at and on by the enemy. This did not happen just occasionally. This happened every single day including Sunday. No wonder his/her nerves are frazzled and his instincts are still in warrior mode ready to fight or defend. They should be.

The reason a lot of the guys want to get back with their Army buddies that they went over with and even just go hang out with them is because they understand what each other went through, and the families do not. They feel they can talk to each other with understanding without having to explain themselves or talk about the actual experiences. Sometimes families ask questions. Do not force your loved one to talk about “it”. This will all come when it is time. Kids sometimes ask “Wow, did you kill anybody?” Bad question! Wrong question! Your loved one needs your protection from this at this time. Give him/her a chance to heal.

You now have the hardest job of all. You need to make your home a safe place for him/her to heal, and let them know they can trust you to help them through it all. This generally falls to the wife, the mother, the nurturer. There are going to be times you will wish that they were back in Iraq. Sometimes they will think it would just be easier if they would leave. Well, in reality yes it would, but we are dealing here with saving our marriage, rebuilding our relationship and being there for our very hurt loved one. Always remember, this is the person I fell in love with, and he/she needs me now like he/she has never needed me before. And, you wonder, what about me? Will I ever have a normal life again? Yes, you will, it will come. Again I say choose your battles wisely. When the storm and rage is over talk it through with him calmly. Sometimes, they cannot talk about their experiences for a long time, but you can talk to him/her about not taking it out on you at that time. My husband has been home a year and a month and is just now getting to where he can talk about his experiences without getting depressed. The main thing for you to know is that you will have hurt feelings, and be mad at times, and this is normal and it is ok.

You need to talk to your children and prepare them that daddy is not going to be the same, and even help them to know when they might need to back off. Even if you have to come up with signals that only you and the kids know.

There are even going to be times when he is going to deal with the kids and you will think he/she is wrong, but will have to back him/her up. You will think to yourself “What does he think he is doing? He hasn’t been with the kids, I have. He doesn’t even understand what they are going through, I do.” but it is very important to not make him/her look bad in front of the kids, or undermine his authority even if it feels like he is undermining yours. You can talk to him/her privately later. Be a team. The kids need to see you be a team, he needs to be part of the team, and actually so do you.

Remember the finances might be another problem source. When he/she comes home they might want to go shopping. Something they have not been able to do during this past year. Be prepared to endure this. If possible go over the finances as soon as you can so he/she will know what they can do. After all, they feel like I have been sacrificing all year, so it is my turn to go out and get something I want.

You may have made plans for you two to go to the two of your favorite place and he/she does not want to go. Do not let this hurt your feelings.

Do talk to your loved one. Keep the lines of communication open, without fighting. This will be hard on your part because he/she may want to fight at that moment, but they really do not want to fight with you, their loved one, the one they cannot wait to get back home to and who is their security. He/she has not yet learned how to put that rage on a shelf, as it is not going to happen overnight. He/she needs your help and patience so together you can put the trauma, the rage, even the fears that were felt on that shelf. He/she has gone through mental and emotional trauma. This trauma never goes away, but with your help and support it can be set aside so you and your family can go on as a normal functioning family. It is a matter of you two learning how to communicate again with each other. He has had to communicate as a warrior this past year, not as a loving husband or father. He has had to survive, and he is still in a survivor mode mindset.

I have heard some women say, “Well, he had just better straighten himself up!” It is not a matter of him straightening himself up, he has to relearn how to communicate with you as well as you have to relearn how to communicate with him/her to let him/her know that our marriage and our relationship is still worth it. You will at this time have to learn to relinquish some of the authority that you have grown used to, and he/she will have to relearn how to take it back fairly. Remember how it is when you have gained 5 pounds and you are trying to fit back into those jeans. Sometimes it takes a few weeks and patience to lose that weight and fit into those jeans. It does not happen overnight. We live in an instant society, but there is no instant fix in this case. If you can make it through this next year, it will be so rewarding.

You may have a friend or two that you talk through things with. Be careful even then, as you do not want to say things that will make your loved one look bad. You will forget and forgive, others will not. If you can find a friend who is going through the same thing as you are, that might help. I do know that I prayed for patience and wisdom, and turning to God was a great source of strength for me. I have lived through this and survived it, and you can too. My husband and I have been married 43 years. We have too much invested in each other to let it go. Even one year is an investment in your marriage or relationship and is worth the time it takes to work things out.

This letter is not written for instruction. I wrote this for information from experience. It is so much better to fight for your marriage the right way, than to give up and get out. That really is not an answer, but sadly it does happen. That only adds trauma to you, the kids, and to him/her. If you can overcome, and I know it can be done, you will actually be happy and complete again with your partner. The job of the terrorist is to destroy. If he can destroy your family he has won.

Signed,
Been There and Made It Through

Personal Responsibility and Pride in Service

Personal Responsibility and Pride in Service

Renee E. Taylor

October 24, 2006

On October 16, 2006, the Boston Globe published an article by Farah Stockman titled “US Contractors in Iraq Face Peril, Neglect”. Stockman cites in the article as her sources Cindy Morgan, former reefer driver in Iraq and author of the book “Cindy in Iraq”; Jana Crowder, owner of www.americancontractorsiniraq.com; as well as drivers who have been injured while driving in Iraq. Each states that there is no support system in place for drivers who have been injured in Iraq or suffer from “post traumatic stress disorder” or PTSD – a common claim from some returning contractors.

Kellogg, Brown and Root is a private company whose experience with working on military contracts dates back to World War Two, building the Corpus Christi, Texas, Naval Air Station, as well as a series of warships for the US Navy. KBR is not the military, nor should anyone attending orientation and reading the extensive documentation and employee information come away with that assumption. While the military has a structured system for dealing with war time injuries and mental illness, the same can be said of KBR, if one reads the information received at orientation.

KBR policy regarding sick time is noted in the Theater Transportation Mission Manual, dated July 2003, and given to each truck driver in theater, is as follows:

It is essential that any work related injury be reported and tracked through the In Country Safety Department who will co-ordinate with the Houston Support Office Health/Safety Environmental Manager because of the complexities of the rules that govern reporting and tracking of work related injuries and associated compensation. The Houston Office handles compensation claims under the Defense Base Act Insurance.

The injured worker must be unable to earn employee's full usual pay for at least three days as a result of the injury before being entitled to DBA Insurance compensation.

If the injured worker returns to full work at any time up to seventy two hours from the time the injury was incurred, the DBA coverage provided is for medical services and supplies only, unless a permanent, partial disability results. Therefore, the days of work missed during that seventy two hours may be paid at eight hours per day for sick leave provided the employee has earned sick leave as identified in the sick leave paragraph above.

If the disability last more than seven days, then the DBA compensation is paid from the first day of disability. This disability is compensated at 66 2/3 of the employee's average weekly wage prior to the injury, subject to a weekly maximum.

Once KBR is made aware of the incident or illness, a claim is filed with the Defense Base Act insurance carrier, AIG, on the employee’s behalf. It is AIG’s, not KBR’s, responsibility to determine compensability and administer all aspects of the claim. Any unresolved disputes are referred to the US Department of Labor.

Additionally, KBR employees have access to services from the company’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP). This information is given to each employee in their employee information during orientation. This information is also posted in every office in theater. The program is available to employees and family members via telephone – including special phone lines set up in the Iraq theater of operations and the Internet.

PTSD is a mental health diagnosis that meets the American Psychiatric Association’s DSM-IV criteria. Current and former employees, according to KBR’s statement to National Public Radio on May 25, 2006, seeking care for PTSD may make a claim under the provisions of the Defense Base Act (DBA). Determining the compensability of those claims is solely the responsibility of the US Department of Labor, which administers the DBA program. For those employees who do not meet the DSM-IV criteria for PTSD, employees may easily access counseling resources through the above mentioned EAP program, which was established in 1980. For situations beyond what the EAP handles, the employee has access to his or her private insurance. For former employees, there is the option of maintaining COBRA coverage after separation from KBR. However, it is up to the individual employee to continue and pay for such coverage.

In the cases where an employee or former employee disputes the discontinuation of insurance benefits or lack thereof, the American court system is in place. One only needs to locate an attorney willing to take a workman’s compensation claim on a contingency basis. There are also some, such as Gary Pitts who is mentioned in the Boston Globe article, that specialize in DBA claims.

It is clear that the claims of lack of a support system made by Stockman in her article are unsubstantiated. As with any company and insurer, KBR has in place a detailed, clear system for its employees and former employees. It is up to the individual, however, to read the material and be familiar with it.

Another aspect that Stockman apparently failed to acknowledge in her article is the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). All CDL holders seeking employment from a trucking company and the companies themselves are subject to the strict rules and regulations set forth by the FMCSA. As the Boston Globe articles states, former KBR truck driver, David Meredith “cannot drive a truck because of the medication he takes for PTSD”. According to the FMCSA’s safety regulations, Section 391.41 (b) (9), there are restrictions put upon drivers who are suffering from various mental conditions. Additionally, the side effects of the medications one is on for such conditions is to be taken into consideration. According to Ms. Stockman in a telephone call on October 24, 2006, she did not research the possibility that Mr. Meredith’s inability to obtain employment as a truck driver was due to FMCSA regulations. At this point, it would no longer be a KBR or DBA insurance issue. It would be an issue of finding another line of work. It is common in the trucking industry for drivers to be diagnosed with illnesses that force them to cease driving. However, if they are able to work in a different profession, than disability does not apply. This should also be the case here.

There is no dispute that the stress of war effects each and every man and woman in combat. There is also no dispute that Iraq became a “trucker’s war”, as insurgents targeted supply convoys on a regular basis. There has yet to be a case proven where the military did not perform their duties as escorts for our KBR truck drivers according to procedures, regardless of claims made in the Boston Globe article.

An obvious omission by Stockman and others writing about truckers with PTSD is the fact that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has the final say on who can drive a truck in the states. It is not KBR’s nor the DBA’s responsibility if a driver is deemed unable to obtain the necessary medical certification to operate an 80,000 pound vehicle on America’s highways.

With arbitration guidelines in place within the insurance and legal systems, one must wonder what type of “support” is being sought from KBR. It is not the responsibility of any employer to provide an employee with financial assistance beyond what workman’s compensation issues. As stated above, if an employee disputes the discontinuation of benefits, he or she can enter the legal system. It is also not the responsibility of KBR to continue to provide benefits for a former employee who no longer meets the qualifications of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

It has become obvious in the media that research and fact checking is not as important as the “human interest” side of a story. If one is going to write about the trucking industry, than the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations are a necessary part of the fact checking process. Ms. Stockman acknowledged in a recent phone call she had not considered this in her story. It was an issue of “non-support” for contractors.

According to Ms. Stockman, stories about drivers with no “bad experience” from KBR are not “newsworthy”. What constitutes a “bad experience”? A majority of drivers faced the possibility of death at every turn. They watched as their friends died in combat. Trucks destroyed, they continued on the mission, determined to fight another day and deliver the next load of mail, fuel and supplies. The men you do not hear about are the ones who came home to their families, got jobs and carried on with their lives. Memories haunt them and the effect of war is not lost. Knowing they did their job in Iraq well, they adjusted their lives. Some can no longer drive at night, some cannot drive at all. They improvise and overcome.

In World War Two, Private Ira Stanfield was seriously wounded at Okinawa. The only thing to keep him alive to return to his wife and small daughter was the body of a dead Japanese soldier. Stanfield was sent home, legs scarred and battered. Without expecting any more than the medical services provided by the Veteran’s Administration for his injuries, Stanfield did not sit back and feel sorry for himself. Having to learn to walk again, he determined to survive. In today’s climate, it would be expected that he whine to the media about his disability. However, Stanfield found work at a saw mill and eventually formed his own successful business. He saw three children through college. He knew the sacrifices he made were not in vain. It is with the same determination and self respect that his grandson, Convoy Commander Mark R. Taylor, Convoy Commander Paul Reed Convoy Commander Eric Whiting and countless other contractors went to Iraq and served. They have come home and offered their time to share their experiences with other drivers.

The question remains – what kind of support is expected? With the system in place for medical claims and issues, it cannot be that. With the Yahoo groups for contractors, various blogs and other outlets, the opportunity to talk with peers is available. There is a lot of discussion, but no attempt at a solution. Perhaps it is because the solution is personal responsibility and a little hard work. The fact remains that the media is using the American contractor in their anti-Halliburton, pre-election agenda. There are those who are media savvy, admitting that if they say the right words – whether true or not – they will be “part of the story”. But, their stories are filled only with complaints, finger pointing and no “solution to the problem”, which has yet to be identified.

The problem I see is not contractors suffering from PTSD, but media types with an agenda against Halliburton/KBR and those who will willingly or unwillingly be a pawn in the propaganda war. Complaining and demands for unnamed, unsubstantiated claims for “support” from Halliburton fit the agenda of the media. Courage in battle and mission successes do not. If our generation were like that of Pvt. Stanfield, willing to take responsibility and pride in service, there would be no “story”.

BOLO – Adnan el Shukrijumah

BOLO – Adnan el Shukrijumah

By Mark R. Taylor

Renee E. Taylor

October 17, 2006

Featured on America’s Most Wanted in May, June and September 2004, Adnan el Shukrijumah – aka Jafar the Pilot - is wanted by the FBI (view the FBI alert here: http://www.fbi.gov/terrorinfo/elshukrijumah.htm) for questioning regarding terrorist activities. Shukrijumah has eluded authorities and blended into the general population.

Shukrijumah is a chameleon, able to change his appearance in order to evade capture. Using alias such as Adnan G. el Shukri Jumah, Abu Arif, Ja'far Al-Tayar, Jaffar Al-Tayyar, Jafar Tayar, Jaafar Al-Tayyar, he is the son of the late Guishair el Shukrijumah. A native of Guyana, Guishair worked in Saudi Arabia for 27 years as an expatriate employee before moving his family to the United States in 1986. According to his June 13, 2004, obituary, Guishair led a New York City mosque attended by at least one of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing suspects before retiring to Florida.

Federal officials began exploring links between Adnan el Shukrijumah and Jose Padilla, a former Floridian arrested in 2003 for allegedly plotting to detonate a radioactive bomb.

Adnan el Shukrijumah was born in Guyana on August 4, 1975, the son of 44 year old Guishair – a radical Muslim cleric – and his 16 year old wife. After leaving Saudi Arabia, the family lived in Brooklyn where the father was Imam of the Farouq Mosque, known as a recruiting station for al Qaeda. Upon moving to Florida, where the father was spiritual leader of the radical Hajah Mosque and Imam of the Boca Ration Islamic Center, the younger el Shukrijumah befriended Padilla, as well as Imran Mandai, who was convicted of attempting to blow up nuclear power plants in Florida and Moessa Shuyeb Jojham, arrested for plotting to blow up Jewish community centers and businesses.

Attending flight schools in Florida and Norman, Oklahoma, along with Mohammed Atta and other 9-11 terrorists, he became a skilled commercial jet pilot. It is also noted that, after meeting with Al Qaeda officials in Panama, he obtained an associates degree in computer engineering from Broward Community College.

Shukrijumah attracted the attention of the FBI in March 2001 after special agents in Miami began an investigation of the Danul Uloom Institute and Islamic Training center in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Imran Mandai stated his terrorist cell would target electric substations, Jewish institutions and other high-value targets.

Debka, the internet outlet for Israeli intelligence, states that Shukrijumah was under surveillance in Canada regarding the disappearance of 180 pounds of nuclear material from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. A spokesman for McMaster University declined to comment on the case to the Canada Free Press. However, they denied any knowledge of al Qaeda on their campus or the disappearance of radioactive material, although Shukrijumah’s appearance in the area has been verified and the school had experienced radioactive leakage.

There is growing concern over an extended stay in Mexico by Shukrijumah and his activities there in 2004. Shukrijumah has been named by several captured al Qaeda operatives as being involved in possible nuclear attacks on the United States. In August, 2004, he was spotted in the northern Mexican province of Sonora near “terrorist alley”, the main passage way for illegal aliens, OTMs (other than Mexican) and special interest aliens.

Shukrijumah speaks English and carries a Guyanese passport, but may attempt to enter the United States with a Saudi, Canadian, or Trinidadian passport. He has traveled extensively to Canada, Mexico and the Middle East. According to a press statement released by the Saudi Embassy on September 5, 2004, el Shukrijumah is not a Saudi Arabian citizen, as had been reported in the initial alerts. They further state that if he is traveling on a Saudi passport, it has been obtained illegally.

The FBI issued a BOLO (be on the look out) for Shukrijumah on March 20, 2003 and there is a five million dollar reward for his capture. According to the Washington Post, March 21, 2003,

The FBI called Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, 27, an "imminent threat to U.S. citizens and interests" who is "suspected of planning terrorist activities." A senior law enforcement official described him as a possible terrorism organizer in the style of Mohamed Atta, the suspected ringleader of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. But authorities said they have no details on what kind of plot he might be involved in.

Famed Pakistani journalist, Hamid Mir, in an interview with Al Arabya.net, in September, 2006, stated “that bin Laden has assigned a man named Adnan Al-Shukri Juma to carry out a new attack within the US which is intended to be larger than the 11 September, 2001 attacks. According to Mir, Adnan Jumaa has smuggled explosives and nuclear materials into the US through the Mexican border over the last two years and is hiding somewhere in America where the FBI has not been able to locate him.”

There has been a renewed interest in the capture of Shukrijumah, in part thanks to CNN Headline News host and radio talk show personality, Glenn Beck, and Hamid Mir, who appeared on Beck’s CNN program in September.

The fact that this dangerous man has been able to elude law enforcement officials in the United States and other countries is alarming and the ease at which one crosses the US/Mexican border, in addition to the very real threat of terrorist operatives such as Shukrijumah, should have the country on alert. Our government must work to seal the borders in order to thwart the growing threat of nuclear and bioterrorist attacks upon this country.

It is also the responsibility of each American to report any suspicious activities and possible sightings of Shukrijumah to their local FBI office. This individual is considered highly dangerous and should not be approached or confronted.

Our enemy is not only in the Middle East. According to the FBI, Hamid Mir and countless other sources, it is living among us.

Thinking About the Resurgence of Muslim Aggression

Thinking About The Resurgence of Muslim Aggression

Col. Gerry Hickman - USAF - retired

Guest Commentator

October 9, 2006

Islam began in the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula. From the outset, the religion was spread by military force. Aggression was justified as a holy war, or jihad, that the Muslims believed sanctified by God.

Although conversion to Islam was by force, some conquered peoples not only accepted Islam but also joined in its mission. Most notable perhaps were the Ottoman Turks.

The rise of Islam occurred at what was for its followers a propitious time. Byzantium, the last outpost of Roman rule, was in final collapse. When Constantinople fell to the Turks, few other states or rulers were strong enough to resist the Muslim tide.

Yet, a fragmented Europe fought valiantly. When Muslim aggression finally was halted at the gates of Vienna, and restricted to the Iberian Peninsula, its vigor was dissipated. For many centuries, Western Civilization would be safe.

Stopped in Europe, Islam moved on to conquer large parts of Asia. Today, centuries after the first Muslim horsemen brought war to the Middle East, Islam dominates countries from Africa's west coast to the eastern tip of Indonesia.

Reportedly, some 1.5 billion people subscribe to the Islamic faith.

Obey the Sharia

In countries controlled by Islam, nonbelievers must bow to Islamic dominion. All must obey the Sharia, i.e., Islamic laws drawn from the Koran and interpreted by Islamic priests. The culture created under the Sharia disapproves of thought and progress not sanctioned by the priesthood.

Possibly it is this development more than any others that accounts for the widespread impoverishment of Muslim countries. Islamic intellectuals deny it, while blaming the problems of its peoples on Europe and America, i.e., the West.

During the past century Islamic intellectuals, principally clerics, began preaching a Muslim resurgence, calling for a reawakening of Muslim militancy and resumption of Islam's ancient holy war.

Perhaps to make their goal more acceptable, the activists asked Islamic populations, "If Allah intends an earthly paradise for his followers, why is it that the world's most prosperous peoples are those of the corrupt West?"

For the 0Islamic man, the question was answered in no uncertain terms. Western countries, particularly America, it was said kept the Muslim man and his family poor, and caused all his problems.

While the material progress of the West was frustrating to Muslim intellectuals, far more infuriating to them was the growing influence within Islamic society of Western values. Rightly, they foresaw that liberalizing philosophies would weaken Islam.

The original solution offered in rising Islamic thought was to sternly reinforce Shariah law within Muslim countries, while driving Westerners out of them. Such thinking led directly to the spread of radical Islamic teaching.

Today, aggressive Muslim resurgence continues to be fueled by radical Islamic thought, promulgated throughout much of the huge Muslim community. In practice, such thinking has already resulted in the Iranian Revolution, the Taliban, and among other violent groups, al Qaeda.

War Between Civilizations

Thus was born what Harvard University professor Samuel Huntington has called "The Clash of Civilizations" The liberal Western Civilization and the Shariah of Islamic Civilization are perhaps so different as to make their clash inevitable.

In her book, Knowing the Enemy: Jihadist Ideology and the War on Terror, Mary Harbeck of Johns Hopkins University, writes of current Islamic intellectuals:

"…all assume that Muslims have a duty to spread the dominion of Islam, through military offensives, until it rules the world…"

Harbeck notes that Azzam, perhaps foremost among modern Islamic activists, believes that "The jihadist is obliged to perform with all available capabilities until there remain only Muslims or people who submit to Islam".

Presumably, "all available capabilities" is supposed to justify the premeditated murder of women, children, and indeed anyone who does not subscribe to Islam.

It would seem then, that the nineteenth-century goals of reinforcing the Shariah within Islamic countries, while expelling Westerners from them, have morphed into a much larger objective.

In the event, the resurgence of Muslim aggression, asleep for centuries, is now fully awake and on the move. Hugely funded, already in control of Iran, and believing that they are doing what God wants them to do, those who invoke jihadism probably cannot be stopped by military force alone.

Yet a united West, relying at the least on its diplomatic, economic, cultural, and military strengths should be able to once again contain the jihadist movement. Every possible tool will be needed because religious revolutions have throughout history been hard to stop. At stake are Western Civilization and the continued evolution of mankind.

Scoffing at Warnings

While many scoff at such warnings, one need only refer to the Muslim activist question, "If Allah intends an earthly paradise for his followers, why is it that the world's most prosperous peoples are those of the corrupt West?"

The question implies correctly that Muslims, once the world's foremost astronomers, mathematicians, and scientists, are now among the world's most intellectually starved and impoverished peoples. Conquest of the West and establishment of Shariah would surely halt progress not sanctioned by the jihadists.

Western peoples are only gradually awakening to the threat posed by the resurgence of Muslim aggression. The best-selling book in Denmark today, written by two of the nation's leading progressive intellectuals, almost stridently issues a wake-up call. Yet, only vicariously have most people now benefiting from the philosophies of Western Civilization known war. Nor have most known poverty.

Having grown up in affluent societies based on liberalizing philosophies, it is perhaps hard for Westerners to grasp their growing peril.

Too often Americans, as well as Europeans, dispute with each other about parts of the developing struggle. Lost in the contention is the broader need of the West to find ways to stop the Islamic jihad before it has the capability of truly mass destruction.

Even now, Iranian jihadists are reportedly working feverishly to create a nuclear weapon. Compared to the explosion of a nuclear bomb, even the al Qaeda attack on New York would be found exceedingly minor.

Strategic and Tactical: Understanding the Difference

Thus it is that when Americans urge a speedy U.S. withdrawal from Iraq, they display purely tactical thinking. Either willingly or unwillingly, they fail to see the conflict in Iraq for what it actually is --only part of a much broader war.

"A profound ability to think small" is an old saying that describes those who can only see the tactical elements of any wider, strategic struggle.

A profound ability to court disaster might be a better way to put it.

Although difficult to achieve in an environment of political discord, more Americans and Europeans must learn to focus on the overall "War on Terror". Failure to do so could trigger bad consequences --untoward events that are probably still preventable.

By keeping a larger view always in mind, Westerners might be less distracted by events in Iraq, or other single pieces of a much broader struggle. Learning to think in strategic terms could help the West unite against the serious peril that now threatens it.

Perhaps in time the big picture will materialize for most Americans. Within it, Osama bin Laden, al Qaeda, Iraq, President Bush, the Taliban, liberals, conservatives, and other individuals and entities are but pieces. Altering a tactical element of the big picture, such as withdrawing U.S. forces from Iraq, might somehow benefit the enemy but will not alter his goals.

While early removal of U.S. power from Iraq might encourage and even embolden the enemy, its strategy as attributed to Azzam will remain unchanged.

It is enemy strategy that the West must defeat. To achieve victory, a Western strategy with a clear goal must be developed. Seemingly, the goal should be to protect Western Civilization –a goal so sweeping in scope that it might be difficult for some to countenance.

Identifying the Enemy

Opposing Western Civilization is at the least a violent, ruthless, and determined segment of the Muslim world. No meaningful reports about its actually size within Islam apparently exist. Claims that only a small percentage of Muslims are involved in what they call a holy war must therefore be discounted or at least seriously questioned.

Western strategy must take into account that the size and strength of the Muslim force might be larger than current speculation suggests. The strategy should also address the proper way to identify the enemy.

While our adversaries indeed commit terroristic acts, simplistic labeling of a readily identifiable enemy as "terrorists" obscures the true nature of the enemy and makes understanding of the broader war extremely difficult.

As an early step in helping Westerners to think of the war in strategic terms, the governments should abandon the meaningless term "War on Terror". Confusing at best and meaningless at worst, the term was apparently coined to appease the supposed large majority of Muslims opposed to the allegedly few radicals among them.

Whether or not Western governments are willing to admit it publicly, the fact remains that the Western world is engaged in a great religious conflict that could grow into a significantly larger worldwide struggle. Muslims constitute the enemy force that the West must somehow dismember. Perhaps not all Muslims are involved in the struggle, as Western political and other thought leaders proclaim, but the enemy force is indisputably Muslim.

Rather than calling the struggle a "War on Terror", Western governments might better call the conflict what it is: Defense Against Muslim Aggression. No doubt this would instigate protests from supposedly peaceful Muslims, but their remarks should be measured against the value of helping Americans and Europeans to focus on the threat.

Some Muslims have proclaimed a "holy war", and correctly reject the idea that they are merely nihilistic terrorists. The sooner the West comes to accept this self-proclaimed, true nature of its adversaries, as well as the broader context of the struggle thrust upon it, the better its nations can equip themselves –politically, economically, socially, and militarily --to contain it.

Western Civilization is the ultimate target of Islamic jihadism. As a foremost beneficiary of Western culture, America is identified by Muslims, whether peace loving or not, as the epitome of all that their customs proscribe. The aggressors have openly declared war on America, with the avowed intention of destroying its culture and converting its people to their Islamic forms.

Meanwhile, because Muslim aggressors expect Europe to be easier than America to overcome, it is expected by Islamic intellectuals to be the first part of the West to capitulate. Inroads there are being made, and the anticipated appeasement is being achieved.

The Muslim Strategy

While I have not seen a Muslim strategy enunciated, it clearly involves several discernible aspects. The ultimate goal, the spread of Islam, appeals to all members of the faith –whether or not they are radicals. The idea of converting hopelessly corrupt societies to Islam is universally seen as worthwhile.

What the allegedly peaceful Muslims fail to recognize is that the jihadists intend not only to spread Islam, but also to purify it from within according to the Shariah.

States that embrace Islam but not Islamic jihadism might suffer severe penalties.

Recognizing that the list is incomplete, following are several identifiable elements of Muslim aggressor strategy:

1) Patience. Some Muslim religious leaders talk of a war to the death that might take more than a century.

(Whether or not the U.S. withdraws soon from Iraq must seem fairly inconsequential to an enemy strategist who thinks in terms of decades. The withdrawal might help, hinder, or have no effect on the aggressor, but would not in the event be viewed as an end to his holy war.)

2) Teach virulent radicalism in Muslim schools and mosques by arousing and nurturing abiding hatred of America, Europe, and indeed Western Civilization.

(Saudi Arabia reportedly has not lived up to its commitment to suppress such instruction. Other nations, such as Iran, never made such promises.)

3) Teach young Muslims that the murder of non-believers as well as the sacrifice of their lives guarantees their entry into paradise.

(Again, Muslim countries reportedly are not taking steps to curb such preaching.)

4) Assure relatives of those thus sacrificed that they will be compensated.

(Both Saudi Arabia --and formerly Iraq-- reportedly pay or have paid families of suicide bombers as much as $25,000 in honor of their sacrificed children.)

5) Recruit, train, and heighten the indoctrination of young Muslims to murder, destroy, and intimidate.

(This element of Muslim aggressor strategy is apparently spreading. Young Muslims born in Britain, for instance, committed murder by bombing subways.)

6) Without apology, seek every opportunity to kill all who do not subscribe to the radical beliefs of the Muslim aggressors. While the main target will always be Western Civilization, Muslims who fail to support the radicals are also targeted.

(Through such intimidation, the Muslim aggressors earn at least passive acceptance of other Muslims.)

7) Develop both willing supporters and unwilling supporters among Muslim and other peoples, thereby creating an obscure and supportive sea in which the jihadist might swim until sufficiently strong to abandon secrecy..

(The quiet takeover of Lebanon by radical Muslims while the Lebanese either offered aid or passive non-resistance is an example.)

8) Encourage Muslim immigration into Western countries, many of whose native populations are shrinking due to declining birth rates, thereby forming separate and rapidly growing cultural enclaves and developing the ability to turn Western liberal philosophy to gains for Islam.

(The influx of Muslims into Europe and America is large, and ongoing. Some reports claim more than eight million Muslims now live in the United States. Western failure to appreciate the danger of this element of Muslim aggressor strategy could result in increasing numbers of killings by homegrown Muslim jihadists. London subway bombings and the plot to destroy 10 U.S. airliners by English born and raised Muslims are examples. )

7) Rely on the Western news media to serve its propaganda aims.

(The news media reportage of fighting in Iraq has focused largely on casualties without accounts of Allied military achievements and heroism. Such day-by-day reports have gradually discouraged many Americans and Europeans and obscured the true nature of the enemy.)

8) Use the Western news media as a source of intelligence.

(Revelations of previously secret U.S. efforts to counter funding, communications, and other radical Muslim activities allow the jihadist aggressor to reduce losses and shift tactics.)

9) Use the West's own liberality against it.

(Capitalize on liberal ideals –ideals that Muslim aggressors consider corrupting influences-- to create confusion among Western peoples. Example: Inspire efforts to extend to Muslim aggressors captured by Western forces all conceivable Constitutional rights enjoyed by Americans and Europeans in their own countries.)

10) Intimidate Western leaders into appeasement.

(According to the Paris edition of the New York Herald-Tribune, the European Union announced that it will "investigate" European banks that have helped the U.S. track the flow of funds to Muslim aggressors.)

11) Continuously push non-radical Muslims to become radical.

Understanding Enemy Organization

For centuries, discernible hierarchies have led Western peoples. Chains of command have existed whether in kingdoms, empires, or republics. Yet there is no such hierarchy within the Islamic jihadist movement.

Instead, both nation states and lesser groups, some of which are exceedingly small, independently plan and conduct Muslim aggression. Inspiration for the formation of aggressor cells, each operating on its own but often supported by established jihadist entities, is apparently spread by roving clerics. The United Kingdom recently expelled one such priest, but the task is made difficult by the Western belief in freedom of religion.

As shown by the London subway bombings, the operations of a homegrown aggressor cell might also be at least partially planned by other Muslim radicals, but the British cell was independent.

That the cell was part of modern Muslim aggression is indisputable, but the fact is that no chain-of-command issued orders to it. Even the roving clerics who convince young Muslims become jihadists seemingly operate independently.

What Aggressor Strategy Seems to Envision

Through intimidation wrought by cold-blooded murder in both Muslim and Western countries, the Muslim strategist seems to envision ever increasing numbers of willing supporters among Muslims, growing numbers of Western converts to Islam, and increasing civil discord throughout the West.

By the time the West awakens to his overall strategy, the aggressor strategist must anticipate that Islamic countries will already by purified by the stern enforcement of Shariah. Assuming that the West at last responds meaningfully, a battle to the death between the clashing civilizations would then occur.

Islamic intellectuals, the true Muslim strategists, believe Western Civilization is so corrupt that it is incapable of defending itself against a determined Islam. They believe that Muslim forces will take control of Western countries. Those Westerners who refuse to convert to or else bow to Shariah law will be killed.

With the West conquered, the rest of the world would then be targeted.

Note that since it was not America who declared war on Muslim aggressors, we Americans cannot of ourselves now declare the conflict ended. The war will end only after Muslim jihadism has been thoroughly discredited in the community of 1.5 billion believers, and recalcitrant jihadists have been defeated.

An end to the conflict might take a long time. Radical Islamists have stated that the war might last 100 years or more.

Although the U.S. Government, news media, and Western intellectuals tell us repeatedly that the majority of the Muslim religion's huge membership is peace loving, careful examination of the larger picture reveals that within those populations at least some of the apparent jihadist strategy is working. There appear to be insignificant numbers of Muslims who actively oppose the radicals.

The heart of Muslim aggressor resurgence seems to lie in Saudi Arabia and Iran. While the Saudi government has forcibly restrained Muslim attacks, it reportedly continues to tolerate the schools that might be central to the entire jihadist movement. Meanwhile, Iran openly ignores appeals to halt nuclear weapons production, and reportedly has supported aggressor operations in Afghanistan, Palestine, and Iraq.

Iraq

In the West, despite a beginning awareness of the broader problem, most of the focus remains on Iraq. Lightning rods of contention are the president of the United States and the prime minister of the United Kingdom.

Given the threat of broader Islamic jihad, it seems pointless to castigate either a sitting U.S. president or a British prime minister. While it is possible that different leaders might more effectively combat the jihadist movement, any administration will face a far broader conflict than that now occurring in Iraq. Whether under the leadership of George W. Bush, Tony Blair, or others, the West should unite against a graver peril than any posed by Iraqis alone.

Until the West acknowledges the real nature of Islamic resurgence and the war that it pursues, Western leaders will probably appear uniformly weak, indecisive, or worse.

One discernible aspect of Western strategy is that of creating democracies in Islamic countries presently under totalitarian forms of government. Ultimate goal of Western strategists is to get help from governments based on the Western model of popular rule.

While this approach has appeal in parts of the West, and might eventually be helpful in suppressing the jihadist movement, in light of events it to be somewhat forlorn. Free elections were achieved in both Iraq and Palestine.

Violence in Iraq continues despite a massive turnout on its election day. And some ask, "What good did it do to democratize Palestine only to have Hamas elected overwhelmingly?"

Perhaps what America and its allies should recognize that above all the jihadist movement must be discredited and contained. To achieve that purpose America and European countries might be forced to work with totalitarian governments rather than seeking to overthrow them.

Defeating the modern Muslim aggressor is where the vital interest of America and its European allies lie. The West might have little choice in choosing partners to help protect the mutual vital interests of both.

Sense of Urgency

The West it would seem must soon develop a sense of urgency. It cannot long continue to dither. The enemy is identifiable, as is his goal. To reach it, the Muslim jihadist movement has shown itself capable of the most abhorrent acts. Now, it stands at the threshold of achieving incalculable destruction.

Iran we are told may soon have a nuclear bomb. Western leaders plead with the Iranians to stop development of the weapon, yet development seemingly continues apace.

Those who would withdraw our forces from Iraq now must overlook or else ignore Iranian nuclear developments. Should the West eventually be forced to use military power to stop Iran, would it not be tactically advantageous to have bases and lines of communication operating in the country next door?

Overlooked in most reporting is the danger of Pakistan falling into the control of Muslim aggressors. What Americans and Europeans should not forget is that Pakistan already has nuclear weapons, and a sizeable population of radical Moslems.

Should Muslim jihadists come to power in Pakistan, the nuclear problem there would immediately become even more serious than that posed by Iran.

Just as its ancient predecessors, the modern Islamic jihadist movement seeks to rebuild the Muslim world in its own image, destroy Western Civilization, and eventually convert the remaining people of the world. The movement has developed a clearly perceptible strategy designed to achieve its ultimate goal.

In the meantime, our European friends and we Americans appear to be weak and indecisive. Measured against the broader threat, attacks on the sitting U.S. president and British prime minister are at best simply expressions of frustration. Changing Western leaders might lead to greater effectiveness in combating the resurgence of jihadism, but will hardly change its goal.

Appeasement of Muslims by the West is foolish. Those who have historically sought to appease their enemy have found themselves only encouraging further aggression. Like the men trapped by crocodiles, the strategy of the appeaser is to be the last one eaten.

Having identified the enemy and examined his strategy while reviewing the Western response, one might shudder at thoughts of the future. Yet, there is still time for the beneficiaries of Western Civilization to unite, bring all possible resources to bear, and once again contain ages-old Muslim expansionism.

Under Fire

Under Fire

Renee Taylor
September 30, 2006

The news media and anti-Halliburton sites such as www.halliburtonwatch.org have been broadcasting a video clip showing an attack on a US Mail convoy in Iraq from September 2005.  It is being used by the media and anti-war websites to condemn the military and KBR and denigrate the brave service of thousands of American truckers and soldiers serving or having had served in Iraq.

I have to wonder - what was the purpose of putting this up on the Internet?  The "public's right to know?"  The video shows a clearly panicked driver in a war zone.  Crouched in his truck, there is no effort that I can see that he made any attempt to escape.  He holds his video camera up to show the execution of one of his fellow drivers, yelling "oh my God, they're killing him."  Posting the execution of one of our own is something the terrorists do on their websites - not something one of our own does.  I cannot begin to second guess his actions in combat, but I must second guess the motive of the one who posted the video, which obviously does not show the whole story.

I also question the motives of those "analyzing" the video itself.  ABC News senior vice president, Jeffery Schneider is quoted in the Richmond Times Dispatch as saying, "The video speaks loudly and for itself.  And the eyewitness tells a very compelling story."  On www.americancontractorsiniraq.com, Jana Crowder, wife of a former engineer (not KBR/Halliburton) in Iraq questions the morality of the American truckers and the military in their actions.   I seriously doubt their ability to discuss the actions of a military/KBR convoy in Iraq.  Have those making such accusations sat in an after-action briefing or read an after-action report?  Have they gotten behind the wheel of an eighteen wheeler and driven through an ambush?  Have they watched a video in its entirety, showing an ambush and subsequent recovery?

There are many with an agenda against KBR/Halliburton who are doing a grave disservice to our courageous American truckers in Iraq.  Open discussion with anyone with an opposing point of view is apparently not welcome.

A documentary titled "Iraq for Sale" has been openly endorsed in congress by Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND).  While I have not seen the video in its entirety, I have seen the trailers that are posted on line.  The video and the film maker's website do nothing to hide its agenda, to attack Halliburton/KBR and in the process, the courageous men and women driving trucks to supply our military.  I spoke with Matt Bass with the Democratic Policy Committee, who returned my call to Senator Dorgan.  I asked why, especially in time of war, he was endorsing an enemy propaganda film filled with lies made by the anti-war/KBR left and ex-KBR drivers with an obvious grudge against KBR.  I also asked if Senator Dorgan had attempted to contact the thousands of KBR drivers not associated with the film and without an agenda.  The only response I got was that Senator Dorgan did not endorse the film, but was "concerned about contractors" and used the film as an example.  I beg to differ, as there was no interest in discussing KBR beyond this "documentary".

We are at war.  We have soldiers and civilians alike in harms way - fighting the battle in the Middle East so we do not have to fight it here.  "Support our military and support our contractors, but attack them in any way we can" is the apparent mantra.

The attack video should never have made its way to the internet.  "Iraq for Sale" should never have gotten credibility from a sitting US Senator.

American Truckers Must be Armed in a War Zone

American Truckers Must be Armed in a War Zone

The recent release of a video detailing an insurgent attack on one of our KBR mail convoys in Iraq from September 2005 has captured the attention of the mainstream media. Who is to blame, they say, in the blame game. KBR? The Virginia National Guard who was escorting the convoy? The National Guard unit has been cleared of any wrong doing. Without attending the after mission briefs or seeing after action reports, it is my opinion as a former convoy commander in Iraq on the mail missions, the contractors acted according to protocol. Is Halliburton/KBR to blame? No, it is the insurgents who attacked and murdered the drivers who are at fault in the “blame game” and the fact that civilian truckers are forbidden to carry a firearm to defend themselves.

I brought this to their attention in the weeks after the attack in the following letter, originally sent in October 2005 to KBR, my congressmen, senators and the news media:

“While driving through Connecticut, a quiet night trucking in the US, I listened as Mark Reddig, host of Landline Now, on XM Satellite Radio Channel 171, Open Road, read a story of four American truckers brutally murdered in Iraq on September 20, 2005.

KBR/Halliburton has neither confirmed nor denied this story at this time. Why, KBR, are you ignoring the brutal deaths of these four heroes, who died serving their country and making a living for their families? Why KBR, were these men not armed and able to protect themselves from insurgent attacks?

My wife questioned KBR last year as to why truckers were not armed. She was told that we were “non-combatants, according to the Geneva Convention.”

I can tell you that from driving in Iraq for 18 months that no, KBR, we ARE combatants. The enemy does not care about the Geneva Convention. They do not care about potential lawsuits or bad publicity. They do not care about our lives.

A majority of us are former military and law enforcement. Many of us hold concealed carry permits from our home states. Upon arriving in a war zone, we are forbidden to carry a bullet, much less a gun to fire it with. A 9mm handgun could have been the difference between life and death for these four men. Did you not, KBR, learn ANYTHING after April 8 – 9, 2004?

We served and fought beside the greatest military in the world – in my case the excellent men and women of the 1544th and 497th Transportation Companies. But – these four brothers got separated from their convoy. They got lost.

Anyone who knows trucking knows you cannot, cannot, turn a convoy around on a dime, especially in a war zone. These four brothers didn’t have a chance to return to their base – as many of us did – to call our wives.

Non-combatants? KBR, tell that to the families of these men. Tell it to the families of the men of April 8 – 9, 2004. Tell that to me and my many co-workers to miraculously survived small arms fire, RPGs, IEDs. Tell that, KBR, to the truckers who drive outside the wire every night, tempting the same fate.

These four men do not deserve to have their deaths covered up. Those who continue to drive in Iraq do not deserve the same fate. Why, KBR, are you not responding to questions? Why, KBR, why?”

Had this driver not gotten his video out, few people would know what happened to these brave men. The media, KBR and the military, however, are missing the point. The American trucker faces combat situations every time they leave the wire. They must be armed when working in a war zone.

The Perfect Target

The Perfect Target

Mark R. Taylor
September 21, 2006

Recently, American intelligence officers were given an extraordinary opportunity in the War on Terror. At least 190 armed Taliban fighters were in tightly packed formation at a funeral – the perfect target. Our military was forbidden to act on the intelligence and could only stare in stunned disbelief as the Islamic fascist enemy was allowed to walk away only to reemerge to massacre innocent men, women and children another day.

This is the same Taliban who viciously assassinated six people attending the funeral of the governor of the Afghanistan province of Patkia. United States rules of engagement forbid military attacks on funerals. They were unable to get approval from the State Department and were told our military is to “hold themselves to a higher moral and ethical standard than their enemies". Our enemy, who has no moral standards and no regard for human life, will and do kill at will. We, however, being a civilized, moral people, are abiding by rules of engagement that were written for fighting a state-maintained military with at least some regard for human life.

In the same week, the debate has resounded throughout Washington over the perceived torture of terrorist detainees by our CIA and military. If the enemy knows two words in English it’s “Geneva Convention”. They know that we do our best to abide by our agreements with 112 nations. However, research into the 112 nation-states that signed the Geneva Convention did not yield the names Al Qaeda, Al Aqsa Martyr’s Brigade, Hamas or any Islamic fascist group. I also find it appalling that there are senators and congressmen – those we as US citizens elected to protect and serve us – are applying Constitutional rights to detainees at Guantanamo and to terrorists who are not born here and wish to do nothing more than destroy that very Constitution and our way of life. I searched the Constitution and found no such provisions. Nor did I find provisions that we supply tax-payer funded attorneys and other amenities, such as the Koran.

Senators John McCain, John Warner and Lindsey Graham have proposed legislation to redefine Article 3 of the Geneva Convention to detail what is and isn’t allowed when interrogating detainees. They believe loud music, cold rooms, sleep deprivation and other non-lethal forms of discomfort in an effort to obtain information is “torture”. “Waterboarding”, giving the illusion that one is drowning, has yielded intelligence that stopped ten planes bound for the US from Europe from being turned into bombs meant to kill as many innocent men, women and children as possible, as well as at least a dozen other terrorist plots. It is a false belief that if we are nice to evil, evil will be nice to us. By affording those we are fighting Constitutional liberties, more religious freedom than our own school children, medical care and other amenities, we are only strengthening the terror threat.

Senator McCain went through a horrific ordeal as a prisoner of war in Viet Nam. He is a war hero and his service is honored. However, it is my belief that he is allowing his experiences at the hands of barbarians to cloud his judgment regarding our own upstanding, professional military and CIA. If he were an attorney or judge in a court of law, he would have to recuse himself from a terrorist case. As a senator, shouldn’t he recuse himself from writing legislation regarding torture?

While Congress is fretting over whether or not loud music is “torture”, we must look at our enemy. They capture civilian journalists and contractors, as well as soldiers. With no regard to the Geneva Convention, they terrorize their captives by holding AK-47s to their heads, demanding conversion to the religion of peace. They decapitate at will those who do not comply. Dead bodies are burned in the streets and tossed in ditches like trash.

In the 1990s, Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda declared war on America. America, however, largely ignored this declaration and until September 11, 2001, did little to retaliate in the subsequent terrorist attacks. Treating each instance as a law enforcement issue, we only succeeded in emboldening the enemy. America, to this day, has yet to declare war.

There is no doubt President Bush understands the nature of the enemy we face. He understands how morally repugnant and evil they are. It is sad that so many Americans in authority do not have this understanding. A vast majority of Americans, out of cowardice, ignorance or denial, continue to blame the president and our military for the terrorist attacks and acts of war rather than blaming the enemy. Until sane, rational people come to grips with the reality of the situation, they only inflict further damage on my country and its ability to fight this war.

You cannot negotiate with evil. You cannot appease evil. You can only destroy evil. The enemy is a fanatical sect that is in self proclaimed “jihad” – holy war – with the West. They are in a religious war and their only objective is to force conversion or massacre “infidels”. By ignoring these truths and not adapting rules of engagement, rules of interrogation and our own mindsets to the truth of the enemy, unspeakable horrors face us in the years to come.

Intolerant

 Intolerant

Rants from an Arkansas Housewife – September 17, 2006

I have come to the realization this week that I am intolerant. Intolerant, as the left would describe me, and proud of it.

I am intolerant of radical Islam, a belief system that teaches the destruction of my country and my way of life. I am intolerant of the so-called “moderate” or “good” Muslims who stand silent while the militants spew their hatred and continue the bloodshed of innocent men, women and children in the name of Islam.

I am intolerant of my property taxes in Arkansas going to fund public education. Government schools, which continue to punish Christian children for voicing their beliefs, are funded by the same government who is tripping over itself to make sure the enemy we capture on the battlefield has the Koran published in nine different languages. As I write our check next month, it will be under protest. Our education system is a disaster – government educated children can barely read or write, but at least they have “self esteem”.

I am intolerant of sitcoms and commercials that continue to portray men as buffoons who couldn’t find their butt if their wife didn’t draw them a map. I am also intolerant of so-called women’s programs, pushing a pro-gay, pro-abortion agenda. I am a home schooling housewife happily married to a man who also believes God’s Word is Truth. Men don’t lie with men and women don’t lie with women. Maybe that’s why Rosie O’Donnell doesn’t like us very well.

The feminization of men has really gotten under my skin. Men, by design are warriors and protectors. Women are, by nature, nurturers. Let boys play cowboys and girls play house. Trust me, they will be better for it.

Jane Fonda, Rosie and Gloria Steinham are starting a “woman’s radio” network. Somehow, I doubt middle class, happily married (to men) moms will be allowed. My prediction is it will fall the same fate as the late AirAmerica.

In closing, I am becoming increasingly intolerant of politicians and washed up Hollywood types who claim to be smarter than the average citizen. In my opinion, if you don’t wash your own dishes, mow your own grass or pick up your own dirty socks, you don’t have a clue.

Denial

Denial

Mark R. Taylor

September 6, 2006

May 23, 2004 – Fallujah, Iraq. My convoy was suddenly hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) imbedded in a civilian pick up parked on the side of the road. The thick smell of gunpowder sulfur and burning truck tire rubber filled the air. Smoke engulfed the hot, desert. In the aftermath of the explosion, the 1544th Transportation Company, Illinois National Guard, our military escorts, and my fellow civilian American truck drivers came under fire by insurgents hiding in the background. The military returned fire as we tended to our wounded soldiers and civilians. Total chaos surrounded us as RPGs and AK fire rained upon us. While Bill Price and others began retrieving the US Mail from a burning trailer, Kevin Tanzie and I saw, in a vehicle across the highway, a suspicious individual attempting to escape the combat area. Both of us former law enforcement officers in the US, we quickly assessed the situation, stopped the vehicle and detained this individual. As Kevin guarded the suspect, I crossed the battlefield to report the capture to the military police. The suspect was detained and taken away. We lost Jeremy Ridlin of the 1544th that day, as well as two marines.

The reactions by civilian and military leaders were strikingly different. Our civilian management went into immediate denial, unable to believe that this individual in civilian dress could have anything to do with the deadly attack on our convoy. The military took swift and immediate action. The detonator that was used to set off the IED was found in the man’s vehicle.

Recent reports of three Islamic men with 1000 cell phones in Michigan and other obvious terrorist activity shows the stark contrast between our civilian and military handling of the war on terror. While many see the war as being fought in Afghanistan, Iraq and lands far away, the war is being fought on our own soil.

Had the three men in Michigan been caught in Iraq, the military would have dealt with them swiftly and efficiently. They would now be residents of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Since the act to support terrorism was committed on US soil, they were arrested by civilian police and processed as civilian criminals within our court system. Due to the constraints of the legal system and its inability to process and detain enemy combatants, the men were released back into the general population.

An Islamic-fascist who recently opened fire upon a Jewish Community Center in Washington State, murdering a pregnant woman, was arrested and processed within our American court system.

A self-proclaimed terrorist attacked the streets of San Francisco, California, murdering one and injuring many innocent civilians as he used the vehicle he was driving to terrorize a Jewish neighborhood. He was arrested and is being processed in our court system.

In Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, police were called to the Travel Centers of America truck stop. Two Middle Eastern men had been reported to local authorities for “suspicious behavior”. The pair was operating a tractor trailer carrying an unknown radioactive material. False registration and vehicle information was given to the truck stop. Reports state that the lock on the trailer was cut by the men and replaced with a lock purchased at the truck stop. The truck was later stopped in Ohio. No further information on the truck, the suspects or radioactive material has been supplied.

Reports such as the ones above fill the local papers of cities and towns across America. They are handled by local law enforcement and the enemy combatants are pushed through our court systems and released. The media is quick to state these are “misguided” or “angry” individuals committing “isolated incidents”.

Ours is a country in denial – a denial manifested by those in the media who refuse to acknowledge the fact that the enemy is among us. The civilian population can accept criminal acts – a daily occurrence that is dealt with by our law enforcement and legal system. It absolves them of any responsibility and does not disrupt their lives. By admitting the obvious, that insurgents live and work along side us, would lead them to have to make difficult decisions that our politically correct society has not prepared them for.

May 23, 2004, could easily happen in Los Angeles, Des Moines or Atlanta. Had the men in Michigan not been caught, they would have transported their cell phones – less batteries and chargers – to the next level, the insurgents with the radioactive material from stolen tractor trailers made into dirty bombs - that would take out countless numbers of American men, women and children in rush hour traffic going to work and school.

Vigilant Americans working as clerks, truck drivers, police officers and border patrol agents must continue to report suspicious activity to the proper authorities. The American people, our media, our government officials must wake from the denial and learn the tactics of the ever changing enemy, which is using chameleon-like tactics to change their appearance, behavior and demeanor.

By denying the existence of the enemy on US soil, we can go about our lives. It is only when our nation’s leaders and citizens wake up to reality and take responsibility will we be able to thwart an attack more devastating than 9/11.

Rants from an Arkansas Housewife

Rants from an Arkansas Housewife

Renee E. Taylor

August 27, 2006

I have been a few things to get off my chest regarding our recent travels out west and current news events.

To Schoolbus Nagin in New Orleans – your comments in New York only proved you are a moron. My suggestion is that you get back to your “chocolate city” and count your school buses before the next hurricane hits. Fox News already dispatched Shephard Smith to wait for it.

To the illegal immigrants – go home. If you really want to come here, come legally. Learn English. I am tired of going into businesses in Dallas, Denver and California only to be met by employees unable to speak the language of this country. It’s English. If Mexico is so great, stay there. I’ve been there and don’t wish my country turning into Amexico.

To those talking heads who are twisting words to make their agenda more pleasing to the average Oprah watcher – Illegal is illegal. If someone swims across the border, they are not a “guest worker”. They are a wet criminal. Oh, yeah, don’t forget the terrorists who are learning how to speak Spanish and hiring coyotes to bring them across the border with the criminals who don’t want to go swimming in the Rio Grande.

I will not go into my experience with Ebonics in South Carolina. Just that I not be fluent in any language but English. You remember that obscure language where the pronouns and verb tense mattered?

To Greta Van Susteren and the rest of the news media – John Mark Carr is a pervert, a pedophile and a criminal. We do not care if he ate lobster and drank champagne on his trip from Thailand. Don’t make a celebrity out of this demented creep. Put him in a cell with Bubba who hasn’t had a congical visit in twenty years. Chances are, Carr only confessed to the Ramsey killing to avoid what he had coming for his crimes in Thailand.

To those who haven’t realized it – John Kerry is a liar. Howard Dean is a fruitcake (my apologies to the fruitcake). This is a war. The president of Iran doesn’t want to play nice. Hezbollah isn’t honoring any cease fire. They are only regrouping and rearming for future attacks on Israel. And Bin Laden declared war on the US in the 1990s. Al Qaeda still wants to blow up airplanes and kill people. However, I’ll briefly concede to the appeasers who still think diplomacy works with these monsters. We’ll send Cindy Sheehan, John Kerry and Martin Sheen to visit with Hamas, Hezbollah, al Qaeda and the Al Aqsa Martyr Brigade armed with a few cases of “A Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren, a few guitars and the sheet music to Kumbiya. If they are not feeling all warm and fuzzy and in a group hug in a week, then we level the region and build the world’s largest Wal Mart.

And, finally, the guys caught with 1,000 cell phones? I am only an Arkansas housewife with a degree in legal administration, but I’m not stupid. They were caught taking the batteries out of the phones and throwing away the chargers and packaging. Their defense was they were going to resell them. A cell phone without the packaging, battery and charger is only good to someone who is building an IED.

That being said, I think I will go back to watching Stargate SG-1 on DVD. At least Col. O’Neil and the SG-1 team speak English.

UPDATE

The “All John Mark Carr Channel” has just changed its format to the “All Hurricane Ernesto Channel”. In the meantime, I will be getting Seasons Two through Four of “McGyver” to watch until Hurricane Season is over……

Winning the Hearts and Minds

Winning the Hearts and Minds

Mark R. Taylor

August 28, 2006

While in Iraq as a convoy commander, I led mail missions out of the Joint Military Mail Terminal, Baghdad International Airport. The civilian drivers, known as “The Iron Pony Express”, along with our military escorts, the 1544th Transportation Company, Illinois National Guard and the 497th Transportation Company, US Army; the 256th Personnel Service Battalion, New York National Guard; the civilian mail handlers and other members of the military and KBR employees witnessed history as Paul L. Bremmer turned over the facility to the Iraqis – their first post office since the fall of Saddam. Our military mail facility had been moved to an airport hanger and it was exhilarating to watch the handover of our former facility to the Iraqi people.

Many members of the new Iraqi media were there covering the event, along with other Middle Eastern media. They covered extensively this positive step as Iraq moved forward. Where was the American media?

I have watched with great interest how our American media and Hollywood are handling the War on Terror. In an effort to be “unbiased”, the media has sided with the terrorists. Hollywood’s efforts have been lukewarm at best. Yes, Steve Bocchco of “Hill Street Blues” fame, put out a thirteen episode series called “Over There”. It made for good television, but the attempt to show the good and bad led to creative liberties that made the series a parody of the truth.

I ask myself – where is the Bush administration? With the left wing media controlling the news out of Iraq, Afghanistan and other fronts in the War on Terror, the attempts to reach the mainstream of America by our Defense Department has been dismal.

Unless you watch the 24 hour news channels, you would never know we are in a world war against Islamic fascists. Since returning from Iraq, I have been disgusted and dismayed by what I have seen. John Kerry, John Murtha and Nancy Pelosi continually lie about the war. Their disrespect for our courageous troops is rarely challenged by anyone outside conservative radio. School teachers indoctrinate children in government funded schools with their anti-American agenda and Communist diatribe. College campuses are staffed by 60s hippies wanting to revive their hopes of destroying America by poisoning the minds of their students with their dreams of a Marxist utopia. Professors such as William Woodward of the University of New Hampshire are teaching the lies that the United States orchestrated the attacks of September 11. The attempts by politicians seeking votes, special interest groups and judges seeking their fifteen minutes of fame hamper the ability to track down the enemy.

I have pondered lately on the efforts by director/producer, Frank Capra, in World War II. Funded by the Department of War, Capra produced a series of films titled “Why We Fight”. Originally made for the military, the newsreels were shown at movie theaters before feature films to educate the public on why we were at war and who our enemies were. President Roosevelt held his famous “Fireside Chats”, which were covered on every radio station in America. He spoke to the population in a direct, no-nonsense style.

President Bush, Secretary Rumsfeld and the Department of Defense have to go on the offensive in the propaganda war. They must to find a modern day Frank Capra to produce films to be distributed to the masses. If necessary, buy air time on radio and TV stations to make sure the President’s weekly radio addresses are heard nationwide. Buy space in newspapers and magazines across the country outlining our mission in the War on Terror. Bring the message to the masses that we are in a World War. Islamic fascists are demanding our conversion to Islam or the penalty is death. This was proven recently as captive Fox News reporter, Steve Centanni, and his cameramen, Olaf Wiig were forced to convert to Islam at gunpoint or die. The enemy has killed thousands since bin Laden declared war on the United States in the 1990s.

This administration must take the message to the people, not rely on the people to come to them. They must go to the housewives watching Oprah and the young men watching Spike TV. Right down to children watching Saturday morning cartoons, they have to get truth out. No political correctness, no watering down the threat Islamic fascism poses to us.

We cannot win the hearts and minds in the Middle East if we cannot win the hearts and minds of the American people.

Mark R. Taylor served in Iraq from January 2004 to May 2005 as a civilian convoy commander. He has appeared on “The Captain’s America” and other radio programs and lives in South Arkansas with his wife and young son.

Game Over, Time's Up

Game Over, Time’s Up

Sometimes it seems that pundits, “professional journalists” and the talking head behind the TV news desk can get so caught up in their own agenda and creating controversy for controversy’s sake they ignore the obvious.

If an intruder invades my property with the intent on harming my family, I will not negotiate, say pretty please or try to figure out why the scum “doesn’t like me”. I will not worry that poor upbringing and lack of education is driving him to crime. I will not call the local authorities to try to negotiate with him. No. I will take swift, immediate action, courtesy of Smith and Wesson.

Over the past two weeks, I have watched war unfold in Israel. After years of attempts to appease the terrorist groups of Hamas and Hezbullah, three Israeli soldiers were kidnapped in the dead of night. Israel has endured terrorist attacks against their people while the rest of the world's leaders told them to "exercise restraint". They gave Gaza to the terrorist-lead Palestinians on a promise of peace that was never honored.

Israel has known for years that you cannot negotiate with terrorists. Palestine elected a terrorist government, Hamas, which is funded by the terrorist states of Iran and Syria. Hezbullah is firing Iranian-made rockets at Israel from the terrorist state of Lebanon.

Oh, you say, Lebanon is not a terrorist state. Yes, they are. The government of Lebanon is allowing Hezbullah to operate from their soil without lifting a hand to annihilate them or force them to leave. Israel is being pressured by world leaders to “excise restraint” against an enemy without knowledge of the words “civility” and “restraint”.

We have been fighting the War on Terror against Al Qaeda since they viciously murdered 3000 innocent men, women and children on September 11, 2001. We have fought an uncivilized, inhumane band of animals with no regard for human life. Israel’s war is another front in the same war.

The media is already lamenting “civilian casualties” and poor living conditions in the Gaza Strip. The people of Palestine elected a terrorist government. They are getting what they voted for. Lebanon’s government, along with those of Syria and Iran, harbor and fund Hamas, Hezbullah and Al Qaeda. They put the lives of their innocent citizens at the hands of cowardly terrorists who hide behind women and children, counting on the US and Israel not to strike.

Game over, time’s up. There should be no more negotiating in Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Iran. It’s time for the US to follow our Israeli friends and annihilate the enemy. Cut them off and annihilate them. No press release in the New York Times. No embedded reporters giving away our next move.

September 11 and the events in Israel should tell you – their goal is to destroy Israel and the western world. They savagely and brutally murder at will. The question by the pundits is – when will this war end? I have the answer – it will end when each and every terrorist is destroyed.

Mark R. Taylor served in Iraq from January 2004 to May 2005 as a civilian convoy commander. He returned to his home in Arkansas, where he lives with his wife and young son. Trucking continues to be a way of life for the Taylor family.
